Fondazione Italia:

Everyone is invited to take part to the Fondazione Italia sponsored workshop on Sunday, November 22 from 11:15 to 12:15 pm. Executive Director, Hilary Stern, will be mediating a presentation at the San Diego Convention Center, Room 29A on “A K-6 Italian Dual-Language Program: Implementation, Challenges & Outcomes.”

Fondazione Italia is a is a California 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in 1998 for the purpose of promoting the teaching of the Italian language and culture in Southern California. Not only do they offer extra-curricular Italian language courses to children and adults but they are also and Italian Accessor Agency for the Italian CSET, and work in close collaboration with the Consulate General of Italy in Los Angeles and the Education Office at the Italian Consulate in San Francisco to administer a grant program to start and maintain K-12 Italian language programs in. Learn Italian with two new Interactive Online Courses for High School Students!

Course title:

Accelerated Italian Grammar and Vocabulary Review
Duration: Sept 26 – Dec 12, 2015 (10 Saturdays)

Course description:  Accelerated Italian Grammar & Vocabulary Review – The 10-week accelerated course that begins on September 26th reviews the grammatical structures covered in the Novice through Intermediate level Italian courses. It is a fast-paced course that is intended primarily for false beginners (learners who have had some previous instruction or heritage speakers of Italian who feel that they would benefit from a review of the basic Italian grammar). It is an ideal course for students who plan to take our AP® Italian preparation course that begins in January 2016, or who may just want to take the SAT®Subject Test in Italian in June 2016.

Preparing for the AP® Italian Language and Culture Exam
Duration: Jan 23 – May 7 (15 Saturdays)

Course description: Preparing for the AP® Italian Language and Culture Exam  – The 15-week course that begins in January is a challenging course that is designed to help you prepare for the AP® Italian exam. It focuses on the integration of authentic resources, including online print, audio, and audiovisual resources, as well as traditional print resources such as literature and magazine and newspaper articles. Students will communicate using advanced vocabulary and linguistic structures as they build proficiency in all modes of communication toward the advanced level. Class is conducted in Italian and includes frequent writing assignments. Advanced organizational and analytical strategies are taught, and students will complete the course feeling better prepared to take the AP® Italian exam.

Prerequisites:

  • Must be heritage speaker or have 3 years of high school Italian or equivalent, i.e. intermediate-level proficiency.
  • A minimum of seven students are needed to open the class.
  • *Students are expected to be tech savvy and to have a reliable internet access.*
