A Discussion Primer
Dear Friends,
Recently, consulting firm PwC put out an interesting strategy report on the changing landscape for the entertainment business. PwC looked at the new dynamics of a world where content was still centric but packaging and distribution were going to define Entertainment 2.0.
In today’s environment, content must be developed not only with the ultimate goal of generating critical volume in its audience, so that corresponding advertising revenues can be generated, but more importantly, content must be fan centric. PwC defines fans as users bonded by shared ideas, interest and experiences. A fan centric business is strategical superior and more resilient to technological changes. In fact, it thrives on technological developments.
Netflix clearly bought into this model and after developing a new distribution system, plowed most of its resources into content which is specifically fan centric. Netflix is only the most glowing example but in reality, most apps that are being developed in the space currently are chasing that dream. The new model seems to focus on the synergies of content, technology and last but not least user experience.
Who is going to win this strategic conflict in the media and entertainment business is still up in the air. Risks and opportunities abound. For more clarity on how this business model is evolving, MEET ITALY and the Italian Cultural Institute of Los Angeles will promote a thematic discussion on March 22 at the IIC LA headquarter in Westwood.
The caliber of our panelists guarantees that the evening and the discussion will be forward looking and of great interest.
